I'm not going to start and tell you how the individual gigs went. Needless to say, we were outstanding, they all ran smoothly and were well attended.
I'm just gonna give you some of the sights, some of the sounds, some of the smells of a band on the road. How the rock rolls, as it were. But hey, enough
of my yakkin', let's boogie!
|
If Drew could spend as much time playing bass as he has to spend on our truck, we'd have to change our name to Level 42 (perish the thought!)
Everything's MOT'd and comfy and we've made it to the ferry. Unfortunately the bar's open and tomorrow's a day off so there'll be a price to pay
in the morning.
Didn't get off the boat until 3am. Drew lost his sleeping bag - think Mark was using it as a pillow. We all laughed apparently, but through the
magical properties of beer, I remember none of it.

The devil has my head in a vice and is stirring my innards with a large spoon. My only consolation is that Steve feels worse than I do. Traffic
at a dead stop on the M6. Mark reckons the tour could already be cancelled due to exhaustion. Dead stop on the M40 now. Day of hell continues...

Rested, fed, watered and on the road again - stayed with our manager last night. Arrived on time but Kreator's flight was delayed two hours so preparations
turned a bit chaotic. But we all pulled together and the job turned out a good 'un!
The rock rolls on - Swansea or bust!
|
If it's Monday morning, it must be The Mumbles. Nice wee place... seaside-y. If you're ever there, the Good Company Coffee Shop does a great breakfast!
The van is developing a ripeness that only comes from five men sleeping in a confined space - thanks heavens for the sea air! Swansea's gonna rock tonight - and it did!

Long trek back to London... The Underworld (cockroaches and all!) plays host to Hell tonight. Hell itself will be populated by traffic wardens - 'cause
rules are rules, Heavy Metal band or no... the flames will not burn hot enough!
Great gig, great response, sexy girls to look at and nobody died. Excellent.
|
The Black Country. Spiritual home of Heavy Metal. It's raining. Huge stage - I definitely wouldn't want to fall off that! Good to see Blaze and his manager Neil again.
They're recording a live album here on the 14th December.
As I'm writing we're heading towards Bristol and gig number five... clean fucked and badly needing a shower. If the truck smells, we're used to it...
No sleep 'til... zzzzzzzzz...
|
Hell comes to Bristol... Bierkeller to be exact. More gear, more stairs and some confusion, ho hum. Played the gig, had a shower (hurrah!),
drank a few beers and watched Kreator thrash like fuck. Not a bad night at all!
|
If it's raining, it must be Friday and if it's Friday, it must be Rio's. A well established venue, decorated circa 1932.
Like to say 'Hi' to the guys from Nottingham Uni Roc Soc that came up to see us. Sorry your mates didn't make it but it was a hell of a bad
night weatherwise.
Tired tempers frayed a bit when we heard our ferry might be cancelled and the Irish dates with it. But we'll try for Hollyhead and if the Metal Gods
are smiling on us (and they have been so far) we'll make it.
|
As we arrive into Dublin, the Gods of Metal are still with us.
Eamon Doran's sucks. No two ways about it. The management are assholes. The daytime drunks, urged on by the bar staff, are abusive to the crew and bands
setting up - they won't close the bar for sound checks or ask people to leave (or pay up) before the doors open. The facilities are laughable. No fault
of the guys organising the tour - independent promotors like Emerald have a hard time. A great crowd in a fucking shithole.

Rosetta, Belfast, 8am. Fuckin' early load-in. It's an afternoon gig, which means, for the dozens of people who phoned that evening enquiring about the start
time, it happens before yer mummy makes your dippy eggs and soldiers at tea-time.
Kreator were brilliant. An abject lesson in professionalism for all the local band members present. If the irony of this statement escapes any of the local
band members presently reading this, you can find the definition of the word 'irony' in the dictionary. If the word 'dictionary' escapes you, it's the
book with words in it that isn't your satanic bible...

Many thanks to: Mille, Christian, Sami and Ventor from KREATOR - it was an honour and a privilege.
Calle, Rikard and Johan from DERANGED - by Sunday night, I felt I was! Murph and H and Paul from Emerald - though I'm sure the whole thing put
ten years on the big lad!
From RIFF MASTER GENERAL - good night!
Andrew Baxter has left the auditorium!
